Spiders gifts include – creativity and weavers of fate, balance between past and future, physical and spirit, male and female. Spider is strength and gentleness combined, they awaken creative sensibilities, they are the keepers of the primordial alphabet and can teach you how to write creatively. Their bodies are shaped like the number 8 and they have 8 legs, symbolising infinite possibilities of creation. The 8 legs represent the 4 winds of change and the 4 directions of the medicine wheel.
Many stories exist about Grandmother Spider, the weaver. That she carried on her back the gift of fire in a basket. The basket was woven by her and she presented it to the People. Another story tells that her web bound all things together and formed the foundation of earth. These legends link the spider to the past and the future, birth and creation. When the spider enters our awareness, it is asking us to rebuild the web of our life in accordance with the design the creator gave us.
Spider weaves her web, we weave our realities. Spider reminds us that we create many of the situations in our lives. Spiders have the extraordinary capability of creating, weaving and spinning their own webs. This ability shows and teaches us the gift of creation. We have the power to create what happens in our lives – to us and to others. But we must realise this. The choices we make coupled with our attitude – very powerful stuff.
If the spider has caught you in its web, then look with-in and with-out to see the web you are weaving in your life. Are you content? Are things going well in your life? If things are good, Good! Think about the attitude/choices that have gotten you where you are today, creating positive situation and continue! If however you are on a low with negative happenings in your life and want to improve the situation, think about how your attitude/choices have played a role in creating your current situation. As the weaver of your web, you are the creator of your reality. Once responsibility is assumed for this, the situation will begin to improve. Having the power to weave your own web, means you have the power to make a positive and happy life. Practise having a positive attitude until it is second nature. Make wise, good choices to aid the manifestation of the life you desire.
Most people when cleaning the home get rid of spider webs, thinking they are dirty. A child witnessing a spider spin her web, may be mesmerised by the fragile, magical home it is weaving. Of course the web is the same but the eyes of the beholder view it in very different ways.
This is part of the magic of Spider medicine. They are master weavers. The weaving of a web for a spider involves joining separate strands of fabric into an integrated pattern. This is a significant reminder that we are constantly weaving the fabric of our lives. The construction of a web is connected to the geometry of creation. When making an orb web, the spider releases a sticky silken thread into the wind. If the breeze takes the thread to a spot where it sticks, the first bridge is formed. The spider then carefully crosses the line reinforcing it with a second. This process continues until a frame is made in which the web can secure itself. Bridges serve as a link, tying all things together. They help remind us of our interconnectedness to all life.
Unlike the spider, we aren’t always able to both consciously create and travel through our creations. Sometimes we don’t have the spider’s ability to see our lives as a whole. So often we meet conflict in our lives, not sure how to integrate desires and paths, which seem to oppose one another. So if the Spider has entered your life, it is here to teach you something(s). One of these things is to attune yourself to the energy of the Weaver. You can then begin to see that many of the inner dividing walls that seem to separate aspects of your life are not as solid as they appear. You may be able to see that by looking at things differently, barriers can disappear, and that your life can be viewed in a more integrated way.
You may also realise that the webs you weave need not be sources of entanglement, but a network of roads to travel.
Spider helps bring us to even deeper integration through its link with the spiral, the basic symbol of universal energy, and the figure eight, which is physically related to the spider’s shape, the symbol for infinity. By giving the spider careful thought and consideration, we can see that we are connected to all life, and that there is no past and no future, only the infinite now. They awaken our intuitive creative senses and encourage us to design the fabric of our lives from our souls original intention. If you come across a spider in its web, or creating a new one, pay close attention. This is a symbol of where you are in the weaving of your own destiny. A study of the medicine wheel and the four directions is beneficial.
Spiders are actually very delicate, embodying the energy of gentleness, and generally aren’t aggressive unless defending their lives. Moving forward whatever the situation, with a gentle strength, is a skill that often needs to be learned by those with this power animal.
Spider’s message to you is that you are an infinite being who will continue to weave patterns of life and living throughout time. Please do not fail to see the eternal plan of creation.

This is beautiful and is aligned to how I live and co-create my life. I am tracking in Africa now and just got bitten by a spider twice on my left side. My lymph nodes and super swollen and sore and I have flu like symptoms… Just had to see doctor and take antibiotics…. So my query is what is the spider trying to tell me ? Ok spider you have my attention, I am listening…. Thank you for your response. Xxx sofiah
I’m waiting for my message too. To figure out how to be open to it. I was just recently bitten 14 times on my right leg.
How are you dealing with any negative feelings.
It’s telling you to get out of the jungle and go home!! Lol
The spider medicine is calling you. it speaks of bringing balance creating harmony with the roads of red and blue, one of spirit and one of flesh. Its spirit is primordial and ask that you become aware of your connection to life and your purpose to be fulfilled in your service to humanity.
my spider was on top of my coffee table holdin and enjoying her prey… a fly…while another fly was crawling around her. does my spider have same meaning???
This is so beautifully explained. All that I just discovered while working with a moldavite. Thank you for taking the time and sharing it with people like us.
I have had spiders in my life forever, but as an adult they are white living spiders. WHITE. There has to be symbolism behind the color, only I cant find it. And its not webs, just the spiders. I had one living on my desk and they are always on me. Is there something I am missing?
I have this same thing going on with these white spiders…craziness
me too, white spiders, only at particular times, this morning, Jan 1 2017, as I made my bed, a white one was walking on my sheets … white spider blessings … perhaps white is a deeper infinity with all that is … white is a combination of all colors of the rainbow and powerful healer for strengthening a weak aura, white is also closest to God / Goddess <3
My spider totem woke me up this morning. My alarm awakened me at 6:00, but I decided to lay back down to nap for an hour before getting up to go to work. I just remember a big dark spider gently landing on my shoulder and I opened my eyes exactly at 8:00! It was as it was saying with that gesture ok wake up now. It is interesting the the spider represents the number 8 and I woke up exactly at 8:00, I have also been writing more, another characteristic of this spirit totem. I feel the need to reflect on this information. Thank you beautifully written
I don’t blame you, sister. Yesterday hubby and I went out for a nice lunch and a movie. As we wakled out of the theater I looked at my coat, which was over my arm, and this freaking HUGE (caps just for you) cockroach was on my coat! I screamed and threw the coat on the ground. Hubby picked it up and shook it out and the thing crawled away. For the next hour I had the heeby-jeebies!! That thing could have eaten me in one bite!
Around 8am on the 1/1/16 I went on a hill overlooking the see and I prayed to God and mother earth to thank them. When I went to sleep, I had a dream where I was sitting around a fire I think, and there was a shaman but at the same time was also some Buddhist person. The shaman told me that I had a spirit of a spider. My inner animal was a spider. And then I woke up. Can anyone explain my dream please?! Thanks
I had a visitation by a large Huntsman Spider than walked all over my back and then I awoke!
I am not fearful of spiders at all but of course respect them….. them spider awoke me from my dream…Michael
And as a writer you think I could proof read my typing lol

Last night i dreamed that i was sitting on my bed and i moved it a bit behind me. Then i saw thousands of little black insects looking like ants. When i looked up at my nightstand there were two or three spiders and i wasn’t afraid of them, quit the opposite. But i was terrified by those little ones aroubd my feet. And then the big spider somehow comucated to me that i shouldn’t be afraid of the little ones and to take a better look so i can understand what it is communicating to me. So i did. And i felt enpowerd somehow. I felt like a giant, a godlike figure… i can’t really describe it in words. I guess it is a good sign, right? I am at the very beginning of my career as a lawyer so… any comment would be really appreciated! 🙂
This is so beautifully written and resonated with me fully. I was just on the bus and felt something tickling my right arm. I turned it to find a tiny spider. It’s energy felt gentle, and I responded with the same. I let it crawl on my arm and hands while my bus ride remained, and set it free in the grass, wishing it a long and healthy life. This article was the perfect following for such a beautiful experience. Thank you so much!
Much of this is very beautiful and relatable, but I would like to point out the privilege that comes with being able to state that our attitudes solely effect our experience. I agree that they do play a major part, but there are some things that have nothing to do with the individual and everything to do with society. Take experiencing daily racist microaggressions for example… Are people treating me as dangerous and/or less intelligent because of my pessimistic attitude? Or is the cause the colour of my skin and the systemic oppression that dictates that those sporting such melanin are of lesser value?
I just think it’s unfair to invalidate such experiences by claiming that a more positive outlook would stop these things happening. Sure, maybe you’ll be more compassionate and be less directly affected, but it will still happen. And that’s not okay.
Thanks for taking the time and energy to point that out. You are totally right. We do not create our lives in isolation, we are all connected and everyones lives are affected by the behaviour of others, and also by the lives, actions and narratives of those who came before. Its so frustrating when people want to believe that they are in control and so blame and shame people who experience oppression abuse and hardship.
If you build your wellbeing on the belief you are completely in control of your reality it is very vulnerable and also you will end up suppressing a lot.
Hell yes! Thank you for saying this. Some of the sentiment on this thread alarmed me – associating whiteness with being more sacred or divinely connected.
I do not know what to make of this. ..I feel as if I’m being stalked by this white beautiful spider. I see it always around my car doors. .at first ..I would see a spider in around my car doors and I would kill it. I have a very serious phobia of spiders
It’s like the more spiders I kill the more come. ..
Now…I’ve stopped. Now I watch as they walk around the outside window of my car…it seems like it’s one spider. ..that pays me a visit, almost daily.
What do I make of this?
It freaks me out…I get all itchy…would really like to know what is going on. …
Kia ora from New Zealand. I work within my own indigenous tribe ceeate pathways towards revitalizing our tribal health & wellbeing. This involves driving from my home in town daily into my ancestral lands an hour & a half away every week. Things are coming to a head &,a new design plan for our tribes future us nearing.
Last Saturday we traveled to my ancestral lands in Te Whaiti, Whirinaki, Te Pu A Tane for a fundraiser to help our marae (place to gather our tribe) called Murumurunga . The fundraiser I organised was a success, we had our 2 granddaughters with us & by the afternoon around 4ish we were home again & I lay on my couch for a rest.
I woke up & felt an itchy sensation on my right leg, outer calf muscle. I few hours later I felt my leg throbbing & I had a feverish night.
The next day Sunday I was treated by a doctor at the hospital , it was painful to walk. The coming Monday I was to propose the future plan for my tribe from the words of our people & the spiritual insights I have been receiving. That didn’t happen. I was also to attend my tribes school planning day, modelling & redesigning the mainstream curicullum towards our tribal & a Maori tribal worldview, basically decolonisibg our education plan I didn’t make it.
For the entire week I have been on my couch, reflecting, being grateful that it was me bitten & not my granddaughters & for a whole lot of things. Blessed with our medical system here, I paid $15 to see my owm GP who administered 5 days of antibiotic shots thru an IV line & one on one doctor & nurse monitoring, how blessed. My bite grew to the size of a side dinner plate & to now looking like a mini volcano.
I am on the mend now …I searched for why… then saw this sight & felt that the wisdom has come thru to me & there is more to come.
I am open to your wise thoughts.
My Recent connection to spider is direct and visual. Very much in the present. While searching for my cat with the FlashLight one night , I noticed a scintillating sparkle somewhere out in the woods about 30 feet from where I stood. With my light I followed it intently thinking that I had discovered a lost Jim stone or a sparkling crystal …, lo and behold my tracking lead me directly to a wolf spider sitting happily on a log. Where was the diamond I had expected ? It came at a very important time when I had just missed placed or had stolen from me a very important gemstone. When I saw the sparkle all I could think of was the ring. When I found the spider I was in disbelief that this is all that I was seeing how could this spider be sparkling ?
So then I went on the Internet and searched for can you find spiders by the light of their eyes ?
Sure enough you can. Now that spider has entered my life I am researching the spiritual significance of my recent obsession with going out at night and finding and sitting with spiders
Have a lot going on in my life there are a lot of changes and I feel that the spider showed itself to me for a reason. I enjoyed reading the article in a lot of my questions were answered
I have only just discovered this site and found it very interesting. My spouse and I are practicing occultists and students of the 93 Current, technically Thelema, the Greek word for Will. We have long been wanting to establish contact with people interested in the fields listed on this site. We can be contacted at email@example.com
Be wary of other Spiders that use the web for personal gain. Spider has much wisdom to share yet also holds venom. Allow the meanings to come in their own time.
Hi! Today I was eating dinner and I felt like miss Muffin– A spider like jumped right up to me facing me at the table! And just hung out! I welcomed it and wanted to make it feel safe, admiring it. It eventually run under the shadow of my bowl, then jumped down between my feet and stayed for a very long time. I was trying to make sure I didn’t step on it and eventually it disappeared. I feel I’m going through a big growth spurt, putting renewed faith in my artistic dreams, moving across the country and looking for work/to settle here and build a home. But any interpreted messages are helpful– thank you!
