In Egypt cats were treated like royalty and were always given special privileges. The Egyptian Goddess Bastet takes the form of a cat.
Due to their x-ray vision, acute hearing and high intelligence they were used throughout history as guardians and protectors. In ancient Egypt, cats guarded the temple gates and were used to fend off evil. In Scandinavia the cat was used to represent fertility. The cat is associated with the Norse Goddess of Fertility Freya, and the Hindu Goddess of Childbirth, Shasthi. It is also a symbol of childbirth in India. Witches, in days long gone, were believed to have the ability to shape shift into cats. It was also believed that cats were their familiars.
Cats are extremely independent and combine a high degree of sensuality with a deeply psychic and spiritual nature. It is impossible to own a cat. They may allow you to take care of them and give them love, but only on their terms. Cats come and go as and when they wish to.
Cat’s medicine includes independence, unpredictability, healing, curiosity, many lives, magic, mystery, cleverness, the ability to fight when cornered, seeing the unseen, Allows us to dream its dreams and protection. Love is represented by the cat.
Cats have more rods in the retinas of their eyes which enable them to see very well in the dark. Darkness is often associated with mankind’s fears. Since the cat is at home in the dark, it is a highly valuable ally into the world of the supernatural and the unknown. If cat is your power animal, you may have found an excellent assistant in moving through your fears.
If cat appears in your life the blending of magic and mystery is close by. Like the cat, you too are independent and a free thinker. At night you probably feel energized. You will stay with a person or situation until you are bored – and then you’re off again looking for something more interesting. Cat encourages agility in both body and mind. You will be presented with new ideas and places. The cat gives you clearer perception. You have good organisational skills. The cat teaches us that the physical and spiritual worlds are not separate, but one, and is a good assistant for meditation. A resourceful, strong and fearless spirit guide lending you courage and confidence. Examine the colours, character and behaviour of the cat that has entered your life. Everything about it will be mirrored in your own life.
The energy field of a cat rotates is a counter-clockwise direction, which is the opposite of a human energy field. Thus, cats have the ability to absorb and neutralise energy that affects humans in a negative way. This is part of the cats healing medicine. If something is affecting you in a negative way, place a cat on your lap or find a cat to pet. Your energy field will be realigned immediately and inner balance will be restored.
Cat is a trustworthy teacher, guiding you into the world of self discovery and transformation.
Help. Started reading up. Have reason to believe i have reclaimed my soul in the period of a month. The most painful for me. On record. I am by no means trapped in sadnesslike touchersome hell. I passed really quickly out the other side and emerged with full blown mania. I understand the concept of soul borrowing lending and stealing. I let alto of that shit go on subconsciously for most my life. My current totem is cat. I have two powerful ones. In fact I am now forced to barricade myself away from the world. I’m too sensitive and defensive. Sad happy to extremes. Easily distracted and rageful on the drop of a dime. I’m pretty much like a blind man staring at the sun right now. All sorts of insights and realization made at hypetspeed. I barely sleep n feel better in so many ways. I kind of feel like a newborn at times. What do i do now? This shit won’t stop. I’m really charged a thing vie always been able to feel traces of…but I’m an emotionally charged fire that began by lightning strike. Will this slowly pass? I’m trying to avoid impatient hospitalization. Vie been forced to take a la from work. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I’m also very hungry and in spite of eating alto. I also am UN able to talk with many people on the phone. At the height of my mania I was running wide open with language but only written. If u cannot help. Please share this with your best guess. Hey Bryan, this is a time of immense transition here on the planet and you are not alone in this rapid awakening. It may seem very uncomfortable right now but trust and respect the processes at hand. Know your part in the transformation is immense, and for that i want to thank you for going through this for us. There are a few ways to balance these sensitivities. First of all meditate at least three times a day. You can email me personally if you need any advice on specifics with meditation (foreversmilindan@aol.com). Secondly get some physical exercise, that part is vital for balancing out. Even if it is just a 5 minute jog around the block daily, you will feel the difference. And thirdly you have to eat!! The less you eat the more sensitive you will become. Try to eat healthy foods, lots of fruits and veggies as well as potatoes nuts seeds and maybe some meat for energy. Trust that everything is happening in divine order and you have a special place here which will soon become more clear and evident. It also helps to call in help from the archangels, they are just waiting to be of assistance but cannot intervene until you ask for their help. Your comment caught my attention as I’ve been going through similar things that Brian mentioned and all that you have replied makes so much sense. Is this just a blessing, not a curse? Is this an awakening? This
black and white cat with green eyes comes to me everyday and sits on me n steps on me with her little paws, does this mean something? She sleeps in my arms all the time and she doesn’t even belong to me.

I came across this article cause was curious to know abot more about cats. I just remembered how approx 10years ago I just felr a need to own a cat. I was always surrounded by them in my childhood, but after years of travelling once I settled in, I had this great desire to get a cat. And of course I have even 2 cats, 2 opposites, one is persian home cat, very tame that couldn’t kill anything, except flyes. Other one is black with white paws, extremly tame at times(that was the reason I chose her from the litter or maybe she chose me:) and extremely good hunter, constantly bringing pray to the house, I’m not happy about that, but I have to understand that’s her nature. Since I got these cats, I feel a better balance in my life, I love petting them and to hear their purring. I feel they are protecting me in some way. Every single night when I settled late at night doing something, I’m surrounded by bunch of animals, my 2 cats and a dog:)
Bryan I work with mental health and addiction. What you describe sounds like bipolar. Which I also sense that I have it as well but I do work with many clients with bipolar disorder. There is nothing wrong with that. You are a person as am I. Dont let anything define you.

I consider myself a very sensitive girl. For nearly twenty years, I have been visited by a black cat when driving. I go through seasons of either seeing the cat, shooting stars, finding four and five leaf clovers, and hearing owls (day and night). I have been seeing the black cat twice daily recently. This is a time of huge, uncomfortable growth and change in my life. I would be so grateful to any insights you feel that cat may be representative of! Thank you so much.
I have been seeing black cats cross my path (in my car) twice a day as well. I am also in a time of huge transition and transformation – Also, my father is dying, and loved ones have died in recent years, or almost died. My Black Tuxedo cat, Moky, is aging and nearing the end of his life… He saved mine 14 years ago… I feel that black cat may be assisting me in the transition of loss and acceptence physical death.
Oh my goodness girl I have been visited by black acts for the last 2 years noticing it more than ever. Other day I was on a trail near a graveyard and I seen the black cat frolicking amongst tombstones. A few days later on the same trail the same cat was much closer to the trail. In my past hearing owls hoot has been an exceptionally bad omen for me. Every time I have seen one devastatingly positive upheavals occur. I also have seen 3 green meteors in the last 5 years. Something visits my appartment and plays with my daughters toys. I know it’s my deceased friend he wrote his initials on my bathroom mirror whilst I was bathing. And I have found one horse shoe in the past on an incredibly tedious hike and it now hangs above my door.

Good read. I went out to my car to get something in the evening and an all white cat walked in front on the parked car. New snow on the ground, so it was beautiful to see. Idk what to make of it. I never see white cats when I’m out. I’m not a cat person either. At this time in my life in working towards independence. A scary thing.

I am new to this stuff…I don’t know my “spiritual animal” but i had an “experience” with cats…
During a “manipulated meditation” (don’t ask how) i felt terribly wrong. Then my pet (cat) came to me and distracted my thoughts.
Later that day, i’ve felt an invisible cat during my daytime nap. Like my cat, it came to my bed. I could feel it walking over me, hearing his murmuring sound. But could not see it…And it felt good 🙂

Yes it feels great to hear and/or feel and/or see them when you’re in bed. You can begin your sleep with a smile. I hope you talk to them as well like I do. You’re blessed to have this experience but it’s no coincidence that it came to you.
I am not big on the whole spirit animal thing, but the past 4 years have been a spiritual journey in my life to gain wholeness. It still did not make me look into spirit animals, but something has been happening that I can’t explain. My friends cat just showed up on my back porch like 3 years ago and never left. It hides in the bushes and follows behind me…like five feet and if I turn around it stops…like, I’m not following you. It waits for me when I come home and around the corner. I just thought it liked me because after 2 years I finally decided to start feeding it, before it ate crickets, as I watched many times. Then all of a sudden I have different cats laying on my back porch….I do not feed these cats, and new ones come and switch…as if they are taking turns on watch. So, now I just say hi to them, and shrug my shoulders. i have a different cat that sits near my back door every night and the other cat at my front door..again, like they are keeping watch. So, ya, I don’t know what it means, but it seems more and more cats are coming…and I don’t pet cats, I love them as long as they chill in their area and me in mine. I have never touched any of these cats, and the first cat that follows me…it took 2 years of eating crickets cause I refused to purchase cat food. I always wondered why it never left because it got nothing from me to stay. So, if you could enlighten me as to what this means, cause they are increasing, but being respectful. They don’t make a mess or get me mad, like they know my temperament or something.
Stephanie, what a incredible story! I do hope you’ll find answers to your question. Try to find a (real) psychic, they do exist. But I know, how to recognize the real ones? It’s easy, let them tell you something without any Tarot cards or pendulum about you. About what’s happening right now and let THEM tell you about the cats! That’s how you’ll know. If I would be in your shoes, I would hug them all but that’s just who I am. I love them deeply. Everyday would be sunny with them around me.
So I’ve read every comment on this page and none blows my mind more than the article listed up top. I for one know my spirit animal is a cat and my life at the moment is not in the greatest place. A cat lady came to me, spiritually, about 3 years ago and ever sense than I’ve been putting off the fact that my totem is a cat. I’m a guy and couldn’t figure out “why a cat?” Today is the first time I’ve ever looked into it due to my life situation. I’m 26 and from Montana but have been moving around since I was 18 trying to figure out what my purpose is. I now Live on an island in Florida and still find myself incapable of making the next step in my life. I’m still lost. I don’t know if I should keep waiting? Or what? I know what I’m capable of, but incapable of doing it. I know this is a transition period but I’m interested in any way to push me to the next level. I’ve also never meditated before and am very open to that idea.
Hi I have recently separated from my husband in the last few weeks after a turbulent 17 years . In the last week a deer crossed my path one morning on the way to work and came out of nowhere . And for 3morning this week there has been a black cat at my kitchen window meaowing at me . I have never seen this cat before now . I am a novice when it comes to spiritual meanings but I have been having thoughts over the last 2years about delving more into the spiritual world . Can anyone tell me what this all means please .
Cat meowing is indicating some trouble lurking in the near future.
Between the deer and cat is sum it up like this, after everything you’ve been thru deer is telling you to give yourself unconditional love and to be gentle with yourself. Do your best to live free of your inner critic in regards to past mistakes.
Black cat could be telling you to get in touch with your fun and playful womanly mysterious side. Maybe that was lost to you in your marriage? Be alone, bask in the sun, sit in the grass, read spiritual books, ghost stories, etc. Give yourself ample time to be alone. Learn to trust yourself again and play. But be low key like the dark kitty.

My reoccurring experience is having cats (especially orange ones!) pop up out of nowhere at times where I am at my lowest or feeling the most stressed or pressure, mainly during times of transition, it seems. The more I read, the more I realize that this is actually a ‘thing’ and it’s exciting to know 🙂 There was a time in my life that my friend and I had 8 cats … all unique and different personalities, but a little ‘family’ and I never felt so tranquil as I did coming home to them … pure joy … I think my spirit animal must be the cat, too, if not the owl, too, from what I’ve been reading … so intriguing and meaningful to connect on such a deep level with another being, whether human or animal … 😉
Thank you for such a beautifully written inspirational article on black cats! This year has been HELL for me! Every aspect of my life is in flux. I keep getting the same message thru movies, tv, people, comments, articles, that I am the CREATOR OF MY REALITY. I was upset at my husband (we’re working thru infidelity on his part) and I went for a walk. I wasnt even a house away from mine when out of nowhere a black kitten jump onto and sat on my feet as I was walking!! Then it wouldnt leave me. Yet another message telling me my life can be WHATEVER I CHOOSE IT TO BE. I choose to be empowered and accept my divine right to manifest the life I desire.
