Peru, Guardians of the Forest

The Amazon has been home to the Ashaninka tribe for over 5000 years. They are guardians of 50,000 acres of rainforest. They live simple lives hunting , fishing, gathering fruits and nuts from the trees.they live in harmony, as one, with nature. Preparing coco beans to make chocolate is a popular past time. There serene existence is being jeoprdised by those who want their land. The latest threat is from illegal loggers. After thej latest aggressive approach of another logging company, the tribe leader had enough. He says what the tribe wants is for their children to live as they have done, in the forest. They don’t want to leave their land, they want to conserve it like their ancestors for future generations.

Cool Earth has stepped in to help. They are a charity that protect endangered rainforest. This combats global warming, protects ecosystems and provides sustainable jobs for local people.

Rainforests are made of living carbon. More than 260 tonnes are locked away in each acre. Destroying them releases more climate warming CO2 annually than the entire USA. To make a donation or sponsor units of rainforest - £35 per ½ acre unit of Ashaninka land in Cutivireni, and £50 per ½ acre unit in Awacachi. The Awacachi Corridor is a key strategic site that, along with adjoining areas, reinforces the conservation of over 350,000 hectares of unique rainforest.
